batard (sliced 2-inches thick)

all-purpose flour
Instructions
Whisk together milk, cream, eggs, sugar, Armagnac, and vanilla until smooth.
Soak bread slices in custard, cover, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C). Flip bread and sprinkle with flour-sugar mixture.
Heat butter in skillet over medium, fry bread until browned, then transfer to oven.
Bake for 8-10 minutes until dark and crispy. Serve hot.
Notes
Ensure the sugar doesn't burn by keeping an eye during baking.
